Transparency: Why Is It Important to Both the Farmer & Buyer?

When purchasing a product, many feel it's important to know where that product came from and how it was made. It's natural to care about the origin of your purchases because they affect our lives, whether directly, like through consuming food we buy, or indirectly, like how our dollars are applied to the business, its employees, and its production process. We care about transparency because it connects us to the source of what we've purchased. It puts an understanding of creation and highlights the efforts taken to make the product into the finished good we hold in our hands. Craft cannabis is no different, and Giving Tree Farms embraces transparency as one of our core values. We want our buyers to feel they have access to every area of our operation and that they're a part of our cultivation process every step of the way.

Picking up your favorite strains from a dispensary is an extraordinary experience. The aroma of a freshly cracked jar is incomparable to anything else. But when you're aware that that bud was cultivated in amended soil, fed only the best nutrients, and grown with renewable energy, that chunky flower doesn't only smell good, it presents confidence. You know that when you roll that bud up and smoke it, it was cultivated with the environment in mind and won't contain any harmful chemical residue. If a buyer is unaware of what they're consuming beyond the bag appeal, the experience isn't as complete and could potentially result in negative side effects. Being transparent with our buyers gives them the peace of mind that the Giving Tree Farms flower they're purchasing for their end customer holds integrity. It's clean, sustainable, and true to its traits, being that it was allowed a superior environment to thrive in. While this may not be the industry norm, we hope it will be soon. Trust is how we build relationships with our buyers, and it's how we maintain lasting partnerships with our clients. Client retention is a goal any successful business works toward because it generates positive rapport and leads to referrals in their network. On top of that, the more a client works with us, the more they're open to streamlining transactions, like through custom plantings. With this method of cultivation, both the farmer and the buyer benefit, removing some of the sales efforts for the farmer and wasted marketing and purchasing efforts for the buyer.

There's the idea of seller's insurance as well when weaving transparency into everything we do as farmers. When a client knows how the plant was cultivated and understands what to expect, the chances of that sale falling through significantly decreases. We like to ask our clients how they want their products processed if they've placed a pre-order because, while they may understand our cultivation techniques and timeline, they may have different expectations for the finished product. We've employed a grading strategy that we pass on to future purchasers outlining our standard fashion of processing. If there are specifics they need met to maintain their brand's image, we can accommodate them, and they feel confident moving forward with the transaction.

We've taken the idea of transparency while cultivating to another level and had a third-party certify our methods. Our Simply Clean certification from The Cannabis Conservancy communicates to our buyers and their customers that the buds they're looking at are grown sustainably and ethically. We hope these extra steps we take present a welcoming hand to new potential partners to reach out to us with their craft cannabis needs.
